Responsible Gambling

Blackjack Strategy is a free training tool. We teach the math of the game so that, if you choose to play, you play the cheapest game in the casino as cheaply as possible. We don't take bets, link to casinos, or earn money when you gamble. This page is the honest part of the pitch: what strategy can and can't do, and where to get help if gambling stops being fun.

What Strategy Can and Can't Do

Perfect basic strategy lowers the house edge; it doesn't remove it. In a typical 6-deck game the casino still keeps roughly 0.3-0.5% of every dollar you bet over the long run. In our own 10-million-hand simulation, a player making no mistakes finished behind in most 10,000-hand sessions, with swings of thousands of dollars at a $25 bet.

Card counting can tip the edge to the player, but only slightly, and the variance is brutal. Our risk of ruin calculator shows how easily a bankroll that looks large runs out. Treat any money you bring to a table as the price of entertainment, not an investment.

Warning Signs

Gambling may be becoming a problem if you:

  • Bet more than you planned, or more than you can afford to lose.
  • Chase losses by raising bets or playing longer to win it back.
  • Borrow money, sell things, or skip bills to keep playing.
  • Hide how much time or money you spend from people close to you.
  • Feel restless or irritable when you try to cut back.
  • Gamble to escape stress, boredom, or low mood.

Practical Limits That Work

  • Set a loss limit before you sit down, bring only that amount in cash, and leave the cards behind when it's gone.
  • Set a time limit. Long sessions lead to tired, expensive decisions.
  • Never chase. The next hand doesn't know what the last one did, and raising bets to recover losses only raises the cost.
  • Keep gambling money separate from rent, bills and savings, and never gamble on credit.
  • Use the tools casinos and regulators offer: deposit limits, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion programs.

Age Requirements

Real-money gambling is restricted to adults: 21 and over in most US casinos, and 18 or older in most other countries. Our trainer uses play chips only, but it is built for adults who play or plan to play legally where they live.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can basic strategy make blackjack profitable?

No. Perfect basic strategy cuts the house edge to roughly 0.3-0.5% in a good 6-deck game, but the casino still keeps an edge on every hand. It makes blackjack the cheapest game in the casino, not a way to make money.

Does card counting guarantee winning?

No. A skilled counter's edge is typically 0.5-1.5%, and the swings are far larger than the edge. Counters routinely lose for weeks at a time, and a short trip can end in a loss even when every decision was correct.

Does this site offer real-money gambling?

No. Blackjack Strategy is a free training tool. There is no real-money play, no deposits, no casino affiliate links, and the chips in the trainer have no cash value.
